MAITHRI VIDHYA KENDRAM (MVK) proudly invites the young talented children from schools, colleges and individuals between the age group 6 to 21 years for Music competition for the year 2007.
Rules & Regulations:
Category:Sub - Junior / Junior / Sub - Senior / Senior
Karnatic Music: Vocal / Veena / Violin / Flute / Keyboard / Mridangam / Kanjira / GhatamTo maintain high standard of the Competition from this year MVK organizes two rounds Semi Final and Final. The selected Candidates in Semi – Final will go to the Final round.
In general the TIME duration:
Semi – Finals for all categories: 6 to 12 minutes.
Finals: for all categories: 10 to 30 minutes. |
Sub - Junior: Vocal / Veena / Violin / Flute / Keyboard
Age group: 6 to 9 years (as on 15th Dec.2007)
Two Kriti-s of any composer. (One for semi-final & one for Final) |
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Semi – Final: Adi Talam Basic lessons.
Finals: Adi Talam Basic lessons with three speeds. Must play and recite.
Junior: Vocal / Veena / Violin / Flute / Keyboard
Age group: 10 to 13 years (as on 15th dec.2007)
Semi – Final:
Any Adi Tala Varnam – 2 speed |
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Adi Talam beginning, Teka variations and tisra nadai.
Finals:
Any composition of Music Trinity. (Tyagaraja, Muttuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri)
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Advanced Adi Talam – Tisra & Khanda nadai-s
Sub - Senior: Vocal / Veena / Violin / Flute / Keyboard
Age group: 14yrs to 17yrs. (as on 15th dec.2007)
Semi – Finals:
Any Ata Tala Varnam – one speed.
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Adi, Rupaka, Khanda & Misra Chapu Talam-s with tisra, khanda variations along with mohara and korvai.
Finals:
Any one composition of Music Trinity. (Tyagaraja, Muttuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri) - Raga Alapana, Niraval, Kalpana Svaram and korvai.
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Playing Adi Talam & Khanda Triputa in 2 kalai chowkam ½ or ¾ Edam talli.
Senior: Vocal / Veena / Violin / Flute / Keyboard |
Age group: 17yrs to 21yrs. (as on 15th dec.2007)
Semi – Finals:
Any Ata tala varnam – 2 speed
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Playing any one of the Talam with Tisra, Misra and Sankirna nadai-s along with Mohara and korvai.
Finals:
RTP – Ragam, Tanam, and Pallavi – trikalam with tisra nadai, niraval, kalpana svaram, ragamalika svaram-s ends with korvai.
Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam:
Judges will test the accompanying skills & also must play tani avartanam in any one the following tala-s: a) Misra triputa b) Khanda triputai c) Rupakam 2 kalai chowkam & d) Adi Talam Tisra nadai.
All participants must bring their own sruti box and Instruments.

Eligibility
All participants must submit the filled in applications forms either duly signed by the institutional head or by parents along with the birth proof.

A registration fee of Rs. 50/- must be paid along with the filled in application form.
Last date to receive the filled in application is 15th December 2007.

Awards of the competition consist of Cash prizes and certificates.

Certificates
All participants will receive a certificate based on their performance at the following levels:
Certificate of Distinction
Awarded to the 1st prizewinner in each group.
Certificate of Merit
Awarded to the 2nd and 3rd prizewinner in each group.
Certificate of Participation
Awarded to all participants.
Adjudication
1.The adjudicating panel, consisting of professional musicians, will judge under the set rules of the competition by using a ranking system based on the participants Sruthi, Laya, Raga and Sahitya bhavam.
2 The panel may decline to award any prize if in their opinion, sufficient merit
has not been achieved.
3 Minimum five entries required to conduct the competition for each category.
Under all circumstances and in all areas of dispute the organizers decision is Final and no discussion or correspondence will be entertained.
Prize Presentation ceremony
1. Prize presentation ceremony on the MVK Music festival season 28th to 30th December 2007
2. All Prizewinner in each category will be intimated and must attend in person to receive the award during the MVK Music Festival.
